ANR Grid Reveal
A transition that reveals the next image through a grid of cells opening at staggered times, for shot changes, title cards and graphic montages.

Overview
Grid Reveal divides the frame into a grid. As Progress runs from 0 to 1, each cell opens from its centre to show Next, every cell at its own random moment. Stagger sets how spread out those moments are, Softness the edge of each opening.
At Progress 0 the output is exactly Source and at 1 exactly Next, so the node can stay in the tree for the whole shot.
Inputs
- Sourcerequired
The outgoing image, shown at Progress
0. - Nextoptional
The incoming image, shown at Progress
1. Left empty, the cells open onto transparency. - Maskoptional
Limits the effect: where its alpha is black you see Source unchanged, even at Progress
1.
Output. Source at Progress 0, Next at 1, and a cell-by-cell mix in between, covering the project format.
Quick start
- Add ANR Grid Reveal. Connect the outgoing shot to Source and the incoming one to Next.
- Key Progress at
0on the first frame of the transition and at1on the last. - Set Columns and Rows for the size of the cells.
- Set Stagger:
0opens all cells together, higher values spread them out. - Raise Softness for soft cell edges, and change Seed for a different order.
The panel
The node's panel as Nuke shows it, with the values of a new node. Click any control to see what it does; tabs and sections work as in Nuke.

ANR Grid Reveal7 controls
- ProgressSlider
progress Zero is Source; one is Next.
- ColumnsSlider
columns Grid width.
- RowsSlider
rows Grid height.
- StaggerSlider
stagger Amount of seeded cell timing variation.
How much the cells' start times differ. As it rises, each cell also opens faster, so the whole grid still finishes at Progress
1.- SoftnessSlider
softness Cell-edge softness.
- SeedSlider
seed Deterministic pattern seed, rounded down.
- MixSlider
mix Blend with unmodified Source; multiplied by optional Mask alpha.
Tips
- For square cells, match Columns and Rows to the frame's shape, for example
16and9on a 16:9 frame. - High Stagger makes each cell open quickly at its own moment, for a sparkly, digital reveal; low Stagger reads as one grid opening at once.
- Use a few large cells for a bold graphic wipe, many small ones for a pixelated dissolve.
- With Next empty, a title merged over a background disappears cell by cell.
Good to know
- Progress starts at
0.5, so the node shows the middle of the transition until you key it. - The cells open in a random order set by Seed; there is no directional sweep.
- Source and Next should both match the project format: Next is used at its own size and position, not fitted.
- Mix and Mask blend back to Source, not to Next.
